Catch Up Time - Knit Tea Package & What's On the Needles!

Yep, I'm one of those really awful bloggers!!! I keep promising to do better - but I'm not quite measuring up am I? So I shall take the oath one more time and try, try, try my best to post more often!

First thing on the agenda - my Knit Tea Swap 2 Package arrived today!! I could not believe all the great things stuffed in that box, it blew me away - Tonya was my swap buddy and the package she put together for me was way, way more than I ever dreamed....let me tell you all about it...

Tonya sent me - Bamboo needles (Bamboo is fav type of needles! - and I didn't have this size!!) - a nice smelling Berry scented candle (I love candles!) - a fridge magnet (if you could see my fridge you would know that I love magnets! lol) - 2 boxes of tea - Lipton's Herbal Raspberry (I love ANYTHING Raspberry, so I was really excited to get this flavour! - Twinings English Breakfast Tea (the weird thing about this is a couple of weeks ago I had bought a Twinings sampler box of teas, English Breakfast was one of them and I fell in love with it!!!!) - a TV Guide Celebrity recipe book (Who DOESN'T like recipes, I LOVE them!) - two angels pins - Courage and Awakening (I already have them on my coat!) - a nice big tea mug!! - Pirouette sticks by Pepperidge Farms (I had never tried these - lol I have NOW and I LOVE them!) - a bear shaped bottle of honey (I had never tried honey in my tea before - tried it today after getting it and I love it!!!) - a cute little faux flower arrangement! - and now for the yarn - I got Lionbrand magic stripe yarn! I love the colours - being a newish knitter I don't have much of a stash so this was great to get!! - I will be making socks out of this so stay tuned for the upcoming project and then I got two balls of Debbie Bliss Aran Tweed!! - this is the bestest yarn that I have and that I have ever had!! It's purple with teal and orange flecks! I'm thinking scarf or something along those lines - will give it more thought!! I still can't believe I have Debbie Bliss yarn in my stash!!!! lol....
ONCE AGAIN THANK YOU TONYA FOR YOUR GENEROSITY!!!! YOU HAVE MADE MY FIRST-EVER SWAP A VERY POSITIVE EXPERIENCE!........I WILL BE DROPPING BY TO READ YOUR BLOG!!.......
and I saw that the person I sent my Knit Tea Swap 2 package too , Tammy G, received it and by the sounds of it really like it, it's so hard buying for other people I was a nervous wreck wondering how she would like it - but all seems okay!!!...

well you'll have to wait until tomorrow to find out the rest of my update! it's late and i'm off to bed...!!!...I'll be back (famous last words! lol)

Been Gone Too Long...

Phew! I didn't mean to stay gone for this long! But life has a way of creeping up on you doesn't it? I've been busy with work etc. and I have definitely been knitting! My first ever sock (I posted a pic of it in progress) was coming along nicely until I made the dreaded mistake, I'm a fairly new knitter so I'm not too good at frogging so I had to take it apart and i'm now just starting it again, I'll post a pic of that when I get further along!

I was away last weekend - my sister's and I went to St. Jacob's, Ontario - a small Amish village a few hours from here to do some shopping - lucky for me both of my sister's are into knitting as well so we hit a couple of knitting stores while we were there. I'm in the Knit Tea Swap 2 so I picked some things up for my swap buddy - hopefully she'll like what I got her - this is my first ever swap so I'm nervous about picking good things to send to her! I still have a few more things to get for her and I'm hoping to mail it out on Wednesday or Thursday. My swap buddy - a nice woman by the name of "Tonya"has been in touch with me - check out her blog!

Now - for what I've been up to knitwise ....

I'm making the "Loopy Scarf" out of Paton's Bohemian - I love this yarn!

This Patons Bohemian is for my friend Linda - she came along on our St.Jacob's trip and fell in love with the scarf - but doesn't know how to knit - so i'm knitting this up for her - the colours are actually darker than this pic!

This yarn is for MY scarf! I love these browns - these pictures don't do the colours of this yarn justice!

and next i'm working on...

Yep! MORE dishcloths! I'm actually doing these for my special swap buddy - thought they would be nice to tuck into her package! Then after that NO more dishcloths for awhile - even though I have one heck of a cotton stash going on!

and now a future project update....

My granddaughter Havana - I'm hoping to buy her yarn for her mitred square blanket next week! Keep your fingers crossed for me - here she is today with her Little Mermaid crown on - her mom was out buying her the movie! lol and she was getting ready for it!

And there you have the complete update on what's going on with me! I hope everyone out there is knitting up a storm!

take care

Socks and Tattoo's...!

Well I'm hard at work on my very first sock.....can't really say if i'm 'getting it' or not as I'm just doing the ribbing of the leg part. When I get to the heel then we'll see how I'm really doing...As you can see from the picture I really am just starting out - but no matter what I'm not giving up - i'm going to be a sock knitter even if it kills me!! How's that for determination lol...

and...

now for my tattoo that I told you all that I was getting...well here it is....I loved how it turned out - the tattoo artist I went to designed it just for me and it turned out awesome! I was pretty much mentally prepared for the pain - but was REALLY surprised how much it DIDN'T hurt much! My friend Maureen came with me to get one and she almost fell asleep while Kris (the tattoo artist was doing it). By the way the chinese writing on it says "grandmother" - I went with spelling it in chinese because it looks a little more 'classy'.

It's 3:00 a.m and I'm off to bed - I stayed up late trying to get a cashmere sweater ready to put on Ebay tomorrow - I'll post a picture of it - in it's previous life it was a sweater set so there is a HUGE amount of yarn there - who ever bids on this one won't be sorry...

My very first tattoo I should add and I'm scared s!@*less - but I've ALWAYS wanted one so I'm going to get me one!!!....and then I went and met my sisters for dessert and the picture is what they gave me!! My sister Kris gave me circular needles for my log cabin - yes I was knitting like 300 stitches on straight needles - she gave me the interchangeable set from Knit Picks - I have only heard GREAT things about these needles so I'm excited to get started using them! - AND she gave me a gift certificate to Indigo/Chapters so that I can purchase the book "Scarf Style" so that I can get started on my "Lady Eleanor" scarf that I have pictured in an earlier post! THANK YOU KRISTEEN I LOVE IT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and my sister Karen has given me two circular needles and sock yarn so that I can FINALLY join the club of sock knitters - she too gave me circular needles from Knit Picks and self-striping yarn from Knit Picks as well! THANK YOU KAREN I LOVE IT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My sisters are AWESOME!!!

Well one more dishcloth for my friend and then I'm done with dishcloths for A LONG WHILE since I'm going to be knitting my log cabin big time since I have nifty new needles AND knitting nifty new socks!! So stay tuned for pics and posts as I struggle through trying to learn how to knit socks!!

Beware of Cute Two Year Olds....

I've been sick for the last couple of days!! My own fault - noone else to blame...

Stop the World I Want to Get Off!!

My head is just spinning around and around and around....Why you ask??? Because of knitting...WHAT ELSE!!....I've spent quite a bit of time lately (in fact TOO much time) reading and reading knitting blogs and going to online yarn stores...I have sooooo many things I want to make that now my head is just SPINNING!!...I've narrowed it down though to 2 things that I HAVE to make!!...

this is the first one - Lady Eleanor, it's in the book Scarf Style - I'm definitely going to have to get this book!

this is the next one - The Booga Bag - click on the link to get the directions - isn't it FABULOUS?

So there you go - my newest obsessions - like I really needed MORE of them! I'm still knitting the dishcloths for my friend - haven't worked on my log cabin lately because of the dishcloths but I'm anxious to finish the log cabin as I really want to start on my granddaughter's log cabin! One of my problems with the log cabin is i'm still knitting it on straight needles and I'm in dire need of circular's as there are way too many stitiches on my needles now - I need to get my butt to my LYS and get some! I making a promise to myself - I, Kim, promise NOT to start the above projects until my granddaughter's log cabin is done. Yeah right! lol......

Right now I'm listening to James Blunt - the man is a huge musical talent - check out Goodbye Lover (his new one) and You're Beautiful.

have a great night..

The Story of a Sweater Recycler

My sister's (Karen and Kris) and I recycle previously owned sweaters. We go to thrift stores find quality sweaters - go home and wash them in wool wash - then we "frog" them. You can't find merino, cashmere, silk etc. yarns at that price! Some sweaters we keep for our own projects (I come from a long line of knitters) or we sell them on Ebay. We sure aren't getting rich! But we do save enough money up for a little shopping trip to Detroit once in awhile. We're starting to get a good reputation on Ebay as we have been doing this now for over a year. The above pics are sweaters that we have frogged and have since sold - the first pick is of a bronze silk, the next one is a blue cotton cashmere mix and the last one is a purple, pure cashmere.

Right now we have some on Ebay here are the links - go check them out!
Recycled Yarn - 100% Merino - Black
Recycled Yarn - 100% Cashmere - Charcoal
Recycled Yarn - 100% Silk - Deep Lilac

And that is the story of a sweater recycler!
