Confessions of a Newbie Knitter....

I still call myself a newbie knitter even though I've technically been able to knit for several years...but I've only known the basics and I MEAN THE BASICS! lol...but there is one thing that I've ALWAYS wanted to know how to do, and for some reason it escapes me.. can you guess what that is by the pictures??? I WANT TO BE A SOCK KNITTER!! I probably would be a knitter who ONLY knitted socks if I knew how...I love all the yarns and the little needles that go along with making socks not to mention the fact that I just LOVE SOCKS! My sister Karen is an advanced knitter - she can make anything. I was over at her house on Saturday night and she was finishing up a pair of socks in Regia tiger print yarn - they were awesome! I was so jealous! lol
Oh I have tried to knit them...but for some reason I have brain fog when it comes to it. But I have promised myself that I'm going to go right back at it as soon as my dishcloths for my friend from work are done and my log cabin blanket. I want to clear some things so I can devote my whole attention to it! lol....

I dream of self-striping yarns.......

Dishcloths, dishcloths and more DISHCLOTHS!!

Yep, i'm making dishcloths....and quite a few of them. Here are a few pics - as you can see I'm making the Mason Dixon 'famous' ballband dishcloth and I'm making the "Big Dottie" dishcloth. In the Mason Dixon book the Big Dottie is actually a pattern for cushions but a few, including me, liked the idea of the pattern so much we shrank it down to dishcloth size!! lol.
A girlfriend from work just moved into her first house so I'm making a pile of them to give to her for a housewarming gift. I'm making them out of Sugar 'n Cream, Peaches 'n Cream and Bernat's Handicrafter. I'm from Canada so any Peaches 'n Cream I find is from trips to the States - that is until recently, my local LYS stocked some cones of it so I'm planning a trip there to see how much and what colours. Now, Sugar 'n Cream can be found here but it's more expensive here then in the States, by almost a buck a ball! But of course Bernat's Handicrafter can be found her in abundance!
So that's about all I'm up to 'knit-wise' - just the dishcloths and the log cabin. I'm frogging a great silk sweater right now - recycling sweaters will be coming up in tomorrow's blog entry! LOL..there's something to look forward too!

have good night

Loving Log Cabins and Shameless Bulldogs...

I love Log Cabin blankets....there is something really soothing to me about mindless knitting. I can sit in front of the t.v. at night and knit mindless for hours on it. My plan is to get it the size of my queen size bed - as you can see I have a bit to go. I don't usually bring it along when I go out - for take-a-long projects I bring dishcloths or bibs etc.

My log cabin is being made with Patons Decor on size 3.75mm needles. I wanted a stiffer knit as this will be on my bed I wanted it warm! I'm using Decor because I live in Canada - and there really isn't THAT great of a selection at the local Michael's! I didn't have a yarn stash to fall back on as I'm a beginner knitter - but i'm definitely wanting to start on that stash!

As you can see in the pics I'm entering my eighth round of my log cabin...and of course when I tried to take the pic my English Bulldog "Dory" had to come nosing over to find out what all the fuss was about!

Once this blanket is done then I'm going to tackle a mitred blanket for my granddaughter Havana (will post pics of this sweetie soon!). I'm weighing my options about what yarn to use for this. I want to use a good yarn as I'd like to think that she will have this blanket for years to come. Hopefully will be starting this project sometime in September.

Also will be starting a hat and booties set for my girlfriend Demara AND my girlfriend Starr both girls from work. I have some Sonata from Elann that i'm going to be using for these projects. Starr is having a boy and Demara is having a girl - so I ordered Sonata in different shades. Will posts pictures of the yarn

Hmmm...Where to Start?

I guess I should start with an introduction...My name is Kim - i'm 38 (soon to be 39). I am married with two boys and one gorgeous granddaughter! I work in a nursing home as a nurses' aide.

I learned how to knit many years ago...and have since knitted off and on - never really getting that good at it...Then with the release of the book Mason Dixon my love of knitting was reborn! I think it was the easy but practical patterns etc. that caught my eye! Right now I'm knitting a log cabin blanket - knitting bibs - knitting dishcloths. I guess you can say I'm a knitting fool!

In the next couple of days I'll post some pics of projects that I'm working on etc.

take care
Kim
